My paintings involve the dissection
of observation to learn more about learning. My deep appreciation
of the classical tradition of painting keeps me rooted in technical
skill and ideal messages, however my spirit is founded on the modern
parallels of life, aesthetic, and emotion. Learning in itself is
what keeps me happy and my paintings carry the joy I have for the
process of figuring out how to understand life visually and yet to
have a vision that keeps the human spirit interested both
intellectually and emotionally.
I find inspiration in the landscape’s
poetry, the conditions of man and animal, the science, math, and
reason of the interiors we create and inhabit, as well as concepts
of abstract composition, light, tone and color. Within these
subjects is infinite potential to gain life experience and
knowledge, as well as endless opportunities to connect these
experiences with the wrist action and application of the paint with
the paintbrush. My subjects are important to me but are secondary
to the attempt to make the viewer aware that they have to
participate in the experience. My attempt is to build an image that
reminds humans of their human condition.
